DR BRENDAN VENTER

GENERAL PRACTITIONER

M.B.,Ch.B (UFS) DA (SA) Diploma in Sedation & Pain Control

Dr Brendan Venter qualified with an MBChB from Kovsies in 1993. After internship, he completed his Diploma in Anaesthetics and then opened his first private practice in Bloemfontein. Soon thereafter an opportunity to play rugby in London arose; he utilized this time to register and work as a GP in the UK. Upon his return to South Africa, he completed a Diploma in Pain and Sedation. In January of 2001 Dr Venter & Isma Stewart (Practice Manager) opened the doors to this practice. He is married to Annamé and is the proud father of 3 grown children.

DR JEAN OLIVIER

Dr Jean Olivier has been practicing at Strand Medical for 18 years. He graduated from Maties in 1983. Dr Olivier gained extensive experience while practicing at Rossing Mine in Nambia; he worked as the District Surgeon and was often responsible for administering anaesthesia and performing caesarean sections. After running his own private practice in Somerset West for 12 years, he spent time in Saskatchewan, Canada. He has been an assistant surgeon for orthopaedic procedures for more than 25 years. He is married to Penny and is a proud father and grandfather. He enjoys cycling and a competitive game of tennis.

DR ESTEE SNYMAN

Dr Esteé Snyman joined the practice in 2015. She completed her MBChB at the University of the Free State in 2011, after which she spent 3 years in training at Free State University Complex and Paarl Hospital. It was during her time as a medical officer in Paarl that she discovered her passion for Pediatrics and Internal Medicine. Dr Snyman has a special interest in Chronic Disease Management and Mental Health, and is an Aesthetic Practitioner. She is married to Philip and has two young daughters. When not seeing patients (or doing the school run), she enjoys Pilates and a good glass of red wine.

DR NINA SWIEGERS

GENERAL PRACTITIONER

Dr Nina Swiegers completed her MBChB from the University of Stellenbosch in 2013 and then trained at Tygerberg Hospital Complex. A year-long stint as Community Service Medical Officer in Khayelitsha taught her invaluable skills and ignited her passion for Primary Health Care. It was during this time that she developed a keen interest in HIV Medicine. After working as a locum in various clinics in the Cape Town Metro, she joined this practice in 2017. Dr Swiegers is passionate about Women’s Health, Mental Health and Paediatrics. She is married to Miko and they recently welcomed a baby daughter. Besides practicing medicine, she enjoys reading, travelling and spending time with friends and family (with a glass of bubbly, of course!).

DR PEET SCHABORT

Dr Peet Schabort has been a familiar face at Strand Medical since 2016. After many years in a successful private practice in Bloemfontein, he “retired” to the Gordon’s Bay area. Not for long, though! He is much loved amongst patients and colleagues. Dr Schabort is a proud husband, father and grandfather; he enjoys cycling and DIY, and spends his time travelling between Gordon’s Bay, Pretoria and Australia.

DR CORNELIE HARTUNG

Dr Cornelie Hartung is the newest addition to the Strand Medical family. She joined in June 2023. Dr Hartung qualified from the University of the Free State in 2018. Hereafter she completed her training in the Free State and Mpumalanga. Dr Hartung has a special interest in the management of the Diabetic Patient, and ultrasonography. She is married to Vian and enjoys being a mom to a baby daughter.

Isma Stewart is the Practice Manager; she has been an employee of Strand Medical since the very first day its doors opened in January 2001. After matriculating, Isma completed a Certificate in Business Management at Boland College. She worked as a receptionist, debtors’ clerk and sales agent for a family business in Somerset West. It was through mutual connections in the Strand Rugby fraternity that she and Dr Venter met. Isma is responsible for the day-to-day management of the practice including managing reception, procurement, finance, medical aid queries and chronic illness benefit applications. Isma is the proud mother of one grown daughter, Caitlyn.
